I’ve been riding motorcycles for quite some time. Which means, I’ve worn my fair share of motorcycles jackets. I can say this, they have have their own unique features. Whether it be all black leather, armored with various colors, or high vis reflective safety style, jackets are as diverse as the people who wear them.

Everyone has their own needs when it comes to what the want out of a jacket. It can be purely for fashion, or for safety/protection. For motorcycle riders our jacket is a huge expression of who we are as a rider.

For a rider such as myself, styling is possibly #1 on my needs list when it comes to a Jacket. Safety/protection is a close second.

When, I’m scouring websites looking for jackets it is always the look of the jacket that makes me stop scrolling. Second I look up the options and safety materials that will ultimately protect me if I crash.

Let me introduce you to the Fly Racing Carbyne Jacket.

This right here, is a jacket that will catch your eye and stop that scrolling finger of yours.

The Carbyne comes in Two color options one being all black. And the second being a gray with red accents. Both these color options are superb as they have reflective panels, and abrasive resistant material for safety, yet still allow you to express yourself with the color option of your choice.

The Carbyne is a beautifully constructed jacket that gives it the look of essentially a zip up hooded sweater. Let’s be honest here, all motorcycle jackets have the look of well, a motorcycle jacket. What do I mean by that? I mean you can see a motorcycle from miles away and tell it’s a motorcycle jacket. And that’s fine if you want that look. I tend to lean towards items that don’t follow the norm.

And that’s why the Carbyne is so great in my eyes. It literally looks like a regular jacket you could wear almost anywhere. It features SAS-TEC armor. This armor although thin, will protect you in a possible slide situation. Gone are the days of looking like some sort of boxing dummy. It’s thin, it’s sleek, it’s more words than I can think of to describe it.

The hood on this jacket is fully detachable. Which makes it even more versatile in the looks department. It features a 3 layer soft tech shell and Hyrdraguard Weatherproof technology. It’s not only windproof but also waterproof. Making those random crazy weather rides still enjoyable.

“Well how breathable is it?” You may ask. Let me tell you it’s more breathable than anything I’ve ever worn. The Carbyne features more zippered vents than anything I’ve seen. It starts with four giant zippered vents on your chest /abdomen area. Then you have the vents on your wrist cuff area. Followed by zippered vents in the arm pit area. Yes, that’s right the arm pit. I’ve never had a jacket with that type of venting. It has a mesh inner lining to aid in the wearability but also the breathability.

I compared this jacket next to some of my other riding jackets and it feels so much lighter. Plus it doesn’t make you look like you have bricks in your shoulders and forearms thanks to the thin Sas-Tec armor. I tested this jacket on a hot day and the venting made the ride very comfortable. I also tested it on a cold windy day and again the 3 layer shell made the ride everything I could wish for.

Because, isn’t that what matters most, protection and comfort? I can’t see my self wanting a jacket that make the ride uncomfortable and restrictive. I need freedom to move about the cabin so to speak. The Carbyne is that jacket. It’s fantastically comfortable. It has styling to the max. And it has highly protective removable CE Level 1 armor in the shoulders and and elbows..And it has a removable PE back pad.

How does it fit? We erred on the side of caution and went with an XL for this jacket. It fits pretty loose. We definitely could have easily gotten along well with a large.

Rarely do you find a jacket that can look good but also be protective. But not until now do you find one that breathes, protects, and does not make you look like the riot police.
