ROCKAWAY, NEW JERSEY – April 2, 2025 – TOPDON US, the premier provider of cutting-edge technology and advanced tools for auto repair professionals and enthusiasts, is helping advance the critical need for competent automotive and transportation technicians by becoming a Corporate Sponsor of the Advanced Vehicle Technology Education and Credentialing Coalition (AVTECC). TOPDON will support the organization’s efforts to build an essential skills-based certification model for the two key industries. In addition to financial support and product donation, TOPDON’s U.S. Training and Development Manager, Haakan Light, will serve on AVTECC’s Governing Board.

“Establishing a national, standardized certification process that considers aptitude as well as skills competency is vital to the future of the automotive and transportation industries,” said Chad Schnitz, Vice President of TOPDON USA. “Automotive technology and design are growing at a rapid pace, and its important new technicians demonstrate they can identify issues and effectively repair modern ICE and EV drivetrains. AVTECC’s certification process will help new technicians better demonstrate their skills, offering added assurances to their employers and customers. We’re proud to help support AVTECC’s initiative through our TOP-UP program.”

AVTECC was established to provide the automotive and transportation workforce with a model for industry professionalization through the development of industry standards, educational accreditation, and professional certification. AVTECC will benefit the workforce, employers, and motoring public by certifying workforce competency that will validate skills and foster public confidence. AVTECC currently offers the EV Safe Certification that is designed to require technicians to demonstrate the skills required to work safely on today’s complex electrified vehicles.

“We continue to look to business leaders like TOPDON to help us carry out our mission to create a new standard of excellence for automotive and transportation technicians,” said David Macholz, president and CEO, AVTECC. “Only considering the aptitude of technicians through multiple-choice exams falls short of an accurate skills assessment. Our programs are designed to take a holistic approach to certification and ensure that there is a performance-based component that ensures each candidate has the knowledge and skills to prepare them for a successful career as automotive technicians.”

AVTECC certifications can be administered through training organizations and schools, as well as dealerships and repair facilities. The organization is led by its Founding Officers and Board of Directors, which is made up of leaders from across the OEM, aftermarket and education industries.

TOPDON’s TOP-UP program was created as a global initiative and introduced in the U.S. in 2022. The U.S. program supports community colleges and trade schools, as well as programs at higher learning institutions dedicated to building up the automotive trade workforce.
