JUPITER, FLA. – April 24, 2025 – Edsel B. Ford II, the “godfather of modern performance racing” and Le Mans driver David Hobbs will be on the block when a Superformance MKIII Roadster (Lot #3001.1) is auctioned with No Reserve by Barrett-Jackson at 3:30 pm (EST) on Friday, April 25, 2025, with 100 percent of the hammer price to benefit Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), the leading global type 1 diabetes research and advocacy organization. The car will be sold by the World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions during its Palm Beach Auction, April 24-26, 2025, at the South Florida Fairgrounds.

“Ford’s racing history is filled with legendary cars,” said Edsel B. Ford II, Ford Motor Company. “We’re thrilled to showcase a unique Superformance roadster that honors this legacy to benefit an amazing cause. We hope that the funds raised through this effort bring us closer to our vision of a day when there is a cure for type one diabetes, as we continue to improve the everyday lives of all those currently living with diabetes.”

Clad in stunning Monza Red with silver stripes, the new MKIII has a rare blackout package and black pinstripes with an Anthracite-colored leather trim package. The custom roadster (SP03894) is powered by a world-class Ford Performance 5.0-liter Dark Horse Coyote engine with 8-stack fuel injection, mated to a Tremec 5-speed TKX transmission. Custom black engine bay accents complement the anodized stacks, black ceramic headers and side pipes.

This MKIII rides on 17-inch black Halibrand style wheels with Michelin tires. Inside the cockpit, additional options include red-stitched interior panels, leather seats and tunnel, an Alcantara dash, digital gauge package, anodized spinners, LED headlights, custom shifter and push-button start. The car is sold with an MSO.

“The Superformance MKIII visually resembles the Shelby 427 Cobra, yet is modernized for aesthetic and functional purposes,” said Lance Stander, CEO of Superformance. “The roadster retains the timeless beauty of the original Shelby while blending modern touches into the iconic sports car. We’re proud to partner with Breakthrough T1D and Mr. Ford to sell this special car and work towards ridding the world of Type 1 Diabetes.”

The entire sale price will benefit Breakthrough T1D (formerly known as JDRF). It is the leading global organization working to cure, prevent and treat Type 1 diabetes (T1D), an autoimmune disease that causes the pancreas to make very little, or no, insulin.

Mr. Ford and motorsports legend David Hobbs, who drove a Ford GT to third place at Le Mans in 1969, will be on the auction block when the MKIII is sold. Ford Motor Company’s involvement with Breakthrough T1D began in 1983. An employee-driven group, the Ford Global Action Team, was established with Edsel B. Ford II as Executive Champion. Mr. Ford continues to lead the effort, raising over $80 million for the charity. No other company has had a greater impact on funding Breakthrough T1D research than Ford, an honor that the company holds in high esteem.

Ford Motor Company and Mr. Ford have a direct connection to the car that inspired the Superformance MKIII. In 1965, Texan Carroll Shelby introduced a Ford big block version of the Shelby Cobra with a new chassis designed by Ford Motor Company. The Superformance MKIII is a meticulously engineered and crafted reproduction built under license from Carroll Shelby Licensing Inc.

No expense is spared and no corners cut to recreate these legendary cars, ensuring an authentic sports car experience. Superformance uses only the highest quality new parts in the construction of the MKIII, and as a result they have maintained strong resale values. The cars are known for their track ready drivability and show ready finish.

The Superformance rolling chassis is completely assembled and ready for the buyer to install a drivetrain of their choice. The MKIII has a rectangular box frame, heavy duty TIG welded ladder frame chassis with front and rear crumple zones, independent suspension with adjustable coil overs and unequal length A-arms. Wilwood power-assisted 4 piston front brake calipers and optional power steering are available.

“The Superformance MKIII roadster stays true to the spirit of the cars built by Carroll Shelby in the 1960s while making them faster, better at handling and more robust,” said Stander. “This roadster has the charisma of the original Shelby Cobra with modern updates.”

The Superformance MKIII is street legal and ready for the track. The cars are offered complete, but without engines and transmissions. The selection, purchase and installation of the drivetrain are the responsibility of the purchaser. For more information, visit www.superformance.com.
